Gene Center organizes party members to visit urban green and Dongtan bird sanctuaries

2015-11-04

On October 30, the Gene Center organized all party members and activists to visit Shanghai Metropolitan Green Engineering Co., Ltd. (National Facilities Agricultural Engineering Technology Research Center) and Dongtan Bird National Nature Reserve.

The center and Dongtan started cooperation in May this year, mainly to carry out the selection of salt-tolerant rice materials and the breeding of new varieties on the beach. Through cooperation, on the one hand, the unique natural environment and seawater recharge conditions of Dongtan wetland were used to screen new saline-alkali and flood-resistant rice varieties suitable for tidal flat cultivation. On the other hand, the planting of saline-tolerant rice materials increases the food of birds, provides sufficient food for the birds that inhabit it, attracts more birds to inhabit it, and promotes bird protection and research.

Shanghai Urban Green Engineering Co., Ltd. was established in 1998. It is a high-tech, development-oriented professional greenhouse R & D and manufacturing company formed by the municipal government to accelerate the pace of agricultural modernization and integrate the power of Shanghai's equipment manufacturing and agronomic technology. It was placed under the unified management of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2014 and is located in Chongming. The greenhouse system uses the latest equipment technology to achieve the quality and safety of agricultural products in urban environments.

Chongming Dongtan Birds National Nature Reserve is a wetland nature reserve with migratory birds and their habitats as the main protection objects. It is the largest and most well-developed estuary-type tidal flat wetland in the Yangtze River estuary.

Through this activity, the majority of party members have enhanced their understanding of modern urban agriculture and deepened their understanding of the importance of protecting ecological resources.
